Biltong takes the best parts of your favourite meats – the softness of prosciutto, the simplicity of aged steak — and brings it all into one delicious snack. It’s made with just a handful of all natural ingredients, minimal processing, and no artificial additives or heat. The result is an amazingly tasty, high protein, nutrient dense snack that you can eat straight from the packet.
Where does Biltong come from
Biltong is a centuries old process of curing and air-drying meat that originated in South Africa. In a time before refrigerators and freezers it was used to preserve meat and provide sustenance for future meals. Air-drying retains the meat’s core nutrients and flavour making it an excellent source of protein and all nine essential amino acids. We like to think of it as the original protein bar!
How do you make Biltong
“Biltong Without Compromise” dictates everything we do here at Raging Bull. Unlike some brands out there we craft our biltong in the traditional way using the highest quality natural ingredients. Firstly we take silverside grass fed beef and marinate it in recipes passed down through generations of our family (with a few modern twists here and there). We then air-dry the beef in a strictly controlled temperature environment (to replicate the dry humid temperatures of Southern Africa). While other brands try and speed-up this process we prefer to take our time because we know if you rush the process the taste and tenderness is compromised. The result is a healthy and delicious ready to eat snack that is bursting with protein and low in fat and carbs. Raging Bull Biltong is also MSG and nitrates free and our Chilli and Original flavours are gluten free.
What meat do you use to make Biltong
To make great tasting biltong you need great meat. We therefore only use prime cuts of silverside grass fed beef. Our company ethos also dictates that our beef is responsibly sourced from certified UK and Irish farms. Remember, this is “Biltong Without Compromise”.
What is the difference between Biltong and Jerky
Jerky originated in North and South America and is also a process for preserving meat. The main difference though between Biltong and Jerky is that biltong is air-dried whereas Jerky is cooked or dehydrated.
Where do you make your Biltong
We have been crafting award winning biltong and droewors here in the UK for 25 years. Raging Bull biltong and droewors is the result of all those years of experience and passion.
What is Droewors
Sometimes referred to as Drywors or Beef Beer Sticks. In its simplest terms it’s a delicious dried thin sausage (think peperoni) crafted in much the same way as Biltong and has similar South African origins. While minced meats rather than full steaks are used to create them the drying process is very much the same as biltong. If you like Boerewors sausages you will love these. Droewors, like biltong, is high protein, low carbs.
Is Biltong good for a Keto diet
Our biltong as well as being absolutely delicious is low carbs and high protein so fits as part of a keto diet. Judge for yourself : 100g of Raging Bull Biltong contains nearly 60g of protein, only 0.6g of sugar and less than 3g of carbohydrates! IS BILTONG A GOOD WORK OUT SNACK? Experts say the best snack pre and post workout is a combination of protein and carbohydrates, so instead of reaching for that dull protein drink, grab a bag of delicious Raging Bull Biltong instead.
How long does Biltong last
It’s easy to think of biltong as just a snack but it’s a deliciously seasoned, ready- to-eat meat, which makes it perfect for topping canapés or salads, flavouring stews , sprinkling on top of rice, omelettes, bruschetta, avocado toast (the list is endless!). It also goes great with wine, bread and cheese making for the ultimate charcuterie platter.
How long does Biltong last
The shelf-life of our products is 9 months.
